Superintendent’s Message

Marsh Dr SWelcome to the 2017-18 school year!  As we embark on another great year, here are a few items of note in Darrington Schools:

  • Facilities: cleaning of our facilities are complete and both schools are ready for the start of the year.  We are working on a few final touches, such as repairing/replacing the phone system.  In mid-September the District will begin a project to replace lighting and heating controls in both buildings to improve the quality and efficiency of our school facilities.
  • Athletics and Activities reflect our community’s pride in Darrington and our schools.  Volleyball, MS Volleyball, Football and Cheer are off to strong starts this season.  A host of clubs, activities, field trips and community activities keep our students well-rounded.  I am proud of the spirit and determination our students show in activities and in the classroom.
  • Academics: early returns show continued improvement in our state test results.  College in the High School continues with offerings in English, Math and Computer Science.  DHS will continue programs in Engineering and Computer Science.  Career and Technical offerings at DHS and Sno-Isle Skills Center will provide students  college and career readiness.
  • Darrington boasts one of the best STEM programs in our state, regardless of school size.  Our engineering and Microsoft computer science courses, along with Glacier Peak Institute outdoor education, provide a one-of-a-kind learning experience for our community’s youth.

I encourage you to stay engaged in our community schools.  Please call or email with questions or for more information.  Board meetings are the fourth Tuesday of each month (except December) at 6:30 PM in the Whitehorse Room.  Follow your child’s progress on Skyward, which now has a useful smartphone app.  Our Facebook and Twitter feeds are the best source for current information.  Together we will make this a great year for Darrington!
